Upon seeing the Lamborghini Sterrato I was brought back to the late '80s when I began to fall in love with homologated vehicles. At the time the Porsche 959 became prominent. These vehicles were produced for off-road and rally competition where they would see the most rigorous competition that a vehicle could face.
The only problem with those vehicles were they weren't made for public road use. Bill Gates could tell you from experience when he purchased his 959 that was denied entry and stayed in storage for 13 years until the "show and display" laws were passed. That was the way of things for many years. Some famous vehicles were made for road use, but the legendary off-road options would remain elusive except to creative purchasers capable of overcoming the immense obstacles. That all changed this week when Lamborghini announced the Huracan Sterrato would soon be unveiled. The Sterrato isn't a "modified" or homologated vehicle. No this, as Lamborghini is well known for, is made for you, the driver. This will be the first time in the history that I know of that a buyer can simply walk into a dealership and say, "I'll take that," and drive away with an off-road capable supercar. Not just that, but it looks stunning. Wider fenders, higher stance, perfectly placed front spotlights, fortell the purpose of this vehicle and it's willingness to take leave the pavement behind. Lamborghini is no stranger to off-roading either. Many owners have found ways to get the low-slung vehicles to drive on ice, snow, dirt and a range of other areas. It seems a natural with its all wheel drive architecture and vectoring driveline. All it really needed, it seemed, were the right tires to do the job. So it seems almost fitting that the Sterrato would stand up to the job, but it also poses the daunting question of, why hasn't anyone thought of this before! Lamborghini has, once again, led the competition into a realm that we hope buyers quickly embrace. We can't wait to see the dust getting thrown. The official launch is November 30th and you can head here to see more : Click Here (this link takes you to a third party website (Lamborghini) to review the vehicle)
