The legendary Marcello Gandini passed away at 85 years old
Born August 26, 1938 in Turin Italy, Gandini was best known for designing the most iconic vehicles possibly in history under the Gruppo Bertone company, in its Stile Bertone styling house he created. Marcello was a top automotive designer and some may find shocking, "design interests are focused on vehicle architecture, construction, assembly, and mechanisms – not appearance." Even with his focus not on appearance and purpose built design resulted in the famous and beautiful wedge shape beginning with the Lancia Stratos. This would go onto the first vehicle to be called a supercar, the Lamborghini Miura which is still labeled one of the most beautiful cars ever created. He continued that trend when he designed the Lamborghini Countach that would adorn childhood walls for a majority of the '80s and still stirs the senses of any automotive enthusiast. He designed the scissor doors on the Alfa Romeo Carabo and incorporated them into the Countach design which would go on to be forever identified as the Lambo door. Gandini left Bertone in 1980 and went on to bring his design work into other areas, but the history he created will undoubtedly live on forever. We salute you for all your work and design and for creating the vision and motivation through automotive artwork. You are one of our best and you will be missed. Excelsior and Godspeed. #thesociety #lamborghini #alfaromeo #car #automotive #automobile #engineer #supercar #hypercar #vehicle #countach #miura #legend
